    We are looking for a School Counselor/Social Worker in Detroit, Michigan!

    Responsibilities

     

    School social work is a specialized practice area within the profession of social work. School social workers are a vital part of the total educational team of a school. The primary object of school social work is to improve student’s potential for improved academics.

    The Social Worker is responsible for applying knowledge of social work theories and interventions in order to provide student assessment, recommend IEP services and determine eligibility for special education services. Provide social services and assistance to improve the social and psychological function of children and to strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning.

     

    • Manage caseload and develops an effective schedule which allows for direct service, collaboration and program management
    • Work with community groups to develop supportive resources.
    • Work with IEP team (e.g., school counselors, social workers, speech therapists) and teachers, parents, and administrators to try to alleviate specific problems.
    • Consult with parents on effective intervention strategies.
    • Consult with classroom teachers to help them better understand and work with particular students.
    • Evaluate students to determine need for emotional and social development services.
    • Conduct social development studies for students referred for special education services.
    • Administer standardized behavior scales.
    • Prepare a written diagnostic report for educational referrals.

     

     

    Qualifications

     

    • S.W. in School Social Work REQUIRED
    • School Counselor License preferred
    • Michigan licensed School Social Worker
    • Knowledge of special education requirements in K-12 school setting
    • Ability to form liaison relationships with parents, schools and agencies
    • Strong organizational skills
